Growing up they were a staple at Sunday dinner, so I had watched my grandma make them countless times. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized she never used recipe cards for this dish (or really any); everything was by memory. And I honestly didn’t realize just how hard that would be for me until I followed her around the kitchen one day, writing it all down!!

I think we’ve all been pushed to our limits in ways we didn’t even know were possible. But I was raised to believe that everything happens for a reason, and even during the struggle + the bad times, there is a lesson that makes that makes you stronger..and possibly the whole circumstance worth it.

This Thanksgiving looks soo different! I’m not gathering with my family around my Grandma’s dining room table, enjoying all of the dishes I’ve come to expect from the holiday, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wake up with this immense feeling of gratitude.

But what’s not to love? Everyone in your family gathering around a beautifully set table while enjoying dishes + recipes that have been passed down for generations.

Still sad that this year is going to look completely different, but we’ve decided to try something new to add a little excitement to the day. After we have dinner, outdoors at our favorite local restaurant, we’re going to all come back home + have a dessert party.

And yet, when I received the call from my mom that my grandma didn’t think we should “all do Thanksgiving this year” my heart broke. Sure, I know why we shouldn’t all meet up, and if I’m being completely rational, it really is the safest option. But that didn’t take the sting of having to cancel Thanksgiving with my family away at all.
