Megan, this whole post just made me appreciate you even more. I loved reading where you started and how magic really does happen when hard work, dedication & talent meet consistency and then that recipe puts you on the cover of Vogue. And you’re centered in God & what’s truly important. You were born for this. I’m so happy I found SoP. You always add joy to my inbox :)

In reply to <a href="https://shadesofpinck.com/10things_may21/#comment-121">Eboné Ivory</a>.

I can imagine how frustrating that is, especially since you had such an established one back at school. Starting over is hard, but here are a few suggestions: 1. Join Young Professional Groups for local organizations (COR would be a great one) 2. Invite people you know out to lunch, coffee, or drinks after work-- networking doesn't have to be official, it just has to be a connection and sometimes low-keys events helps you connect even more. 3. Don't be afraid to show up to events alone. I do it ALL the time. It forces you to introduce yourself to people! So if you see something happening-- GO!!!

Love this! Thank you for sharing! I just moved back to my hometown of Columbia, SC from college. I started a business away at school and I’m quickly realizing I don’t have a network and I have no idea where to jump-in in Columbia. My network in college was fabulous, but now I’m rebuilding my business brand/reputation from scratch.

Loved reading your insights, Megan. As a #girlboss for over 30 years and a business owner for 16 years, I’m so grateful for all the lessons I’ve learned along the way. A few things I would share with your readers...

1. Trust your instincts, follow your gut always.
2. Give yourself and others grace- I always say I never make mistakes, I only learn lessons- I just try not to repeat the lesson!
3. Be honest and transparent with yourself and your clients; maintain your integrity and keep your word.
4. Encourage growth in everyone around you, especially when you become an employer. I learned early on that no one will stay at my company forever and that’s ok- I honor their contributions and encourage their next steps with an open heart.
5. Evolution is required to maintain longevity in business- never stop growing and learning about yourself, others, your craft. Your passion will evolve as you evolve.
