3-Rex Themed Birthday Party

I would say it’s hard to believe we have a 3 year old on our hands (because honestly– where does time go?!), but we’ve been experiencing a new level of tantrums and the start of the threenager phase ..so I can comfortably say we are in the midst of the toddler years. But these will become the good ol’ days, right?!!

Nevertheless, I’m always going to celebrate the little boy that changed my life whenever his birthday comes around! So when it came time to plan for this year’s party, the theme was a no-brainer: Three-Rex!! Because not only is Teagan a huge fan of dinosaurs (surprising me with his ability to name like 3 of them), he moves around here roaring and stomping and crashing and doing all kinda dino things that is just felt like a snapshot in time.

Just like in the previous years, I enlisted my wedding planner Alexandra Madison Weddings to help me execute my big ideas. This ensures the little details get done and that I get to actually enjoy the party with our family + friends. But very early on, I made it clear to her that I wanted the theme to feel more like the storybooks I read Teagan before bed… not like a Jurassic Park party (no shade, just not what he’s into). And she really delivered!!

There were no realistic dinosaurs on display.. and the ones that were there were spray painted in sage or slate! We had a giant dino sprinkler  welcome guests (with water off lol), a flag banner in the sweetest color palette that added so much whimsy, balloons floating above dinos with party hats on on the adult tables, and a runner of the party figurines down the kids table set with gingham plates!

For fun, the kiddies:

  • made DIY dino hats (found simple instructions here and just batched a ton of pre-cut strips ahead of time)
  • dug for dino eggs in a plastic pool filled with sand
  • took turns hitting a dino piñata filled with toddler friendly goodies
  • spent hours on the jump castle/ball pit rental that The Cola Bounce House allowed us to customize with a “3-Rex” decal and blue + green balls
  • snacked on a toddler friendly snacks prepared by Abundant Graze

It truly felt a children’s storybook had come to life! And I know when I think back to this time period of his life, this afternoon to hold a special place in my heart
