Daily Devotional Routine

If you’re following us over on Substack, then you already know we’re cocooning all month and one of the only activities we’re interested in are small acts that better ourselves.

One of my 2025 intentions is to be more dedicated to my daily devotionals. I picked up this routine during Covid and did it regularly through my pregnancy, but as life got busier I admit that it became less of a routine and more of something I did when I had slow mornings. But I ran across a quote on IG that said, “It is inconsistent not to have time for God and yet also wish to spend eternity with him.” and that really hit me.

So when I look back on this year, I want to say that I reconnected with my daily devotional practice and reestablished it as a sacred time set aside just for me to center my heart, renew my spirit, and grow in my faith.

When I would share about it more regularly, I alwayssss got questions on my routine. It’s simple enough and only takes about 15 minutes, but it’s enough time to remind me of the gratitude I should feel for each day.. each new opportunity to live more righteously. Here’s what I do:

  1. I start by reading the daily scripture entry in New Morning Mercies. It starts with a thought that usually includes a scripture. Then there’s a passage that expands on that thought, and another scripture that’s recommended for “further reading”
  2. Next, I open my Bible and read through both scriptures suggested in the daily entry
  3. Then I open The Message, a contemporary interoperation for the entire Bible, to each scripture and read the chapter for a clearer understanding.
  4. Lastly, I take time to reflect on the entry and my thoughts– sometimes journaling those ideas down.

Do you have a daily devotional routine? If so, please share below. I’d love to see how ours compare!
