Ladylike Activities That Encourage Slow Living

As we found comfort in cocooning last month, we also found ourselves drawn to activities that not only nurtured our desire to slow down, but reminded us to find joy in creating again.

In a world that often glorifies busyness, these ladylike pastimes reminded us of the beauty in using our hands, finding art in simplicity, and not feeling the need to complete every task in one sitting.

Here are a few activities MPR has embraced that have helped her rediscover the art of slowing down, but we would love to hear what you do too.  Share some of your favorite “slow life” activities in the comments below!

Needlepointing
A favorite of yesteryear, needlepointing is a great opportunity to create something that will last a lifetime at our own pace. Morgan Julia has a collection of designs for beginners along with a guide that can teach any novice. (MPR learned on a 3 hr car ride to the beach)

Scrapbooking family memories
In the age where digital reigns supreme, there was something so nostalgic and comforting holding a photograph. We recommend printing out photos, collecting keepsakes, and arranging them into meaningful pages within a scrapbook. This is a great way to preserve your family memories for future generations, and is best if done with a group!
Following a comfort recipe
Most people have about 30 minutes or so to make a meal for dinner after work. So taking advantage of weekends or days with more time, by preparing a meal that takes a little time to finish. Take pleasure in each step and feel the accomplishment of the finished product that is sure to satisfy your entire household.
