So here’s the dilemma, my husband would rather put a TV anywhere there’s blank space– but I would rather display art. Sometimes he wins, but sometimes we do. And since we’re in the process of renovating the question has come up A LOT. Art has been a part in my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, it was always incorporated into my playtime. But I think it became a true part of my identity and lifestyle after attending a school of the arts throughout my middle school years.

Since those formative years, I’ve found various ways to be involved and keep art in my life. The most notable, thus far, has been serving full two-year term as co-chair of 1858’s Prize for Contemporary Art, a prestigious award given to a visual artist that is using their talent to tell a new story about The South.

Y’all know how passionate I am about the arts! I love it all: performing arts, theater arts, literature, decorative arts..and of course, visual arts. There’s something about witnessing the expression of a feeling you couldn’t put into words that, to me, makes the outlet so necessary. Which is exactly why I’ve made it my mission to try to bring access of the arts (of all kinds) to communities that may not typically have it.
