SHOP: Black-Owned // A roundup of my fave businesses owned by POC
Open
Today we took an emotional journey to #CapeCoastCastle and toured the sacred space that was the final gathering point for millions of Africans before being transported like cargo to the New World. @besttonytravels showed us the dark, humid dungeons that held 1000 souls for up to three months beneath an Anglican Church that was used to indoctrinate the belief that our ancestors were inferior. With every step around these grounds my gut wrenched for them and the torture they were forced to endure— even though this place was only the beginning.
In the last week we’ve seen a modern example of man’s inhumanity to man + the blatant disregard of human life after we ostracize people based on race or religion. Genocide isn’t a myth or a talking point. It’s a deliberate action that takes place the moment we forget bodies are simply homes for souls. 🖤

ART TOUR Pt.5 - Introducing the Momo Girls! These prints from @morowamosai’s “Momo” collection will find a place in our cozy library room in Charleston. I’ve been holding onto these prints for a couple years now. But after we painted the room in a gemstone hue from ceiling to baseboards, I knew these colorful, abstract women would add a little whimsy + wisdom (two things every library needs). #shadesofpinck #apinckhome
Art collection, framed art, Black female artists, Black art, house reno, renovation, interior design

How do I put into words the feeling of returning home to a place you’ve never been? Of all the places we’ve traveled, of all the corners of the world I’ve seen, the excitement I have about visiting West Africa for the first time is unmatched.
We’re headed to Accra, Ghana— one of the region’s largest cities— and a place where I can trace a large part of my ancestry (shoutout to @23andme for helping me) which makes total sense if you have a decent grasp on America’s dark history with the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.
When we first traveled to the continent 6 years ago I read “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi and my soul was transformed. The idea of closing the gap 8 generations later felt therapeutic + like an opportunity to restore a connection that was so brutally severed. But we were in South Africa at the time, so it hit a little different.
Fast forward to now and I’m humbled to get that HOMEGOING that every soul within the Diaspora deserves. 🖤 #apinckworld #shadesofpinck #23andmestory
