I got to paint this mug at the @mackenziechilds workshop in upstate New York and chose to add florals— an obvious choice.

So it should be no surprise that we both start our days in the garden now. We’re there every morning together, before the day takes over, and it encourages me while I write my book chapter by chapter (or maybe it’s just the black coffee wiring me up lol)!

My grandparents moved into their home shortly after my mom was born. They raised their three girls there, and then those girls made it home base after they had their kids. Now, my son is doing parts of his childhood there too. That’s three generations growing up creating memories under that one roof!!

Your family’s story can start with you and your home! But buying your first house can be overwhelming, especially in this economy, which is why every month we’re spotlighting homeownership advice from local mortgage lender @satchelelaine over on the blog!

Comment HOUSE and I’ll send you the links to the first three posts we’ve already shared. You’re closer to buying your first home (and starting your own legacy) than you think!!

June has always felt a little extra generous to me. The hydrangeas are showing off, the jasmine is working overtime, and somehow the thick air still hasn’t quite turned against us yet.

I’m biased, but I’m pretty sure Gemini season is God’s favorite season too. If you don’t believe me, just look around!! 🌸

Ps- I can’t recommend those cut off denim shorts enough!!! Long enough that they don’t show my booty cheeks (I’m too grown for that), but short enough that I don’t feel matronly.

I don’t get to play tourist in Charleston often, so seeing the city through the eyes of new visitors truly makes me appreciate it more!

Here are a few recommendations for what to do in Charleston this summer. Comment LINK and I’ll send you my favorite looks from the trip (and what I’ve been using in my hair this season)!

Last week I kept joking that it felt like I was meeting up with my pen pals!!

Living in a world that’s so digital can feel unsteady at times. But connecting— in person— with the ladies I chat with via email and on Instagram, regularly, felt sooo grounding.

I’ve been working with the ladies of @mestiza_ny for yearssss!! I fell in love with their pieces because many are convertible. A couple of very stylish ladies asked the question “why can’t elevated pieces be worn multiple ways” and then decided to design their own collection. Think floor length dresses that unzip and become minis and dresses that can show your shoulders.. or not. Practical— and yet, genius. For that reason they’re a brand I’ve supported since being introduced. But I finally met the ladies behind the brand (and more importantly behind the email addresses) in real life last week. And it brought me sooo much joy!!

I often say that the women who attended @tastemaker_travels are my colleagues because they really kinda are. We don’t share an office space or end up at the water cooler in between meetings, but they have a special understanding of the industry I’ve been maneuvering for the better part of a decade in a way that few others truly do.

It may be digital, but there’s still community in pen pal relationships…if you make an effort to form them in real life too!! I would know. Me and @thebstinger started off as IG pen pals and now— my son only knows her as ‘Auntie Bean’ 🥹

I’ve been thinking a lot about “a seat at the table” ever since @chapplechandler shared this dinner in Charleston with @tastemaker_travels!

Often times that phrase is used as a metaphor to determine power and who gets the make decisions. However, these ladies weren’t here to take up any votes or establish a decree of any kind. And yet— they still have influence. Their thoughts and opinions go into shaping this taste of millions of women around this country. So having their ear over a beautiful dinner on the piazza at @thecoopercharleston gave me the opportunity to do something that meant a lot to me.

Across that table, we spoke about heritage! @sabrinachazen shared how she learned of the impact of the Jewish community in Charleston thanks to @walkandtalkchs, while I talked about how my community, those who identify as Gullah/Geechie, influenced the South while maintaining the practices of their West African roots. In a place that so often is only portrayed as “one thing” it felt so good to broaden the definition of my hometown to the women who have the power to do the same!

Super thankful for brands like @tuckernuck and @lawluxurytravel that allow conversations like these to happen…around a beautiful table!!
