The Riverwalk bar worth stopping into // Chicago

A great view, a list of pretty much any type of wine/liquor you can think of, and great music….what more could you want on a summer day?

If you plan on visiting the Riverwalk, make sure you make time to stop into City Winery!

Not to be confused with their actual restaurant location on West Randolph, this City Winery is pretty much just the bar version located on the Riverwalk and is only open during the summer. The original restaurant prides themselves on their high-end culinary options, but this bar offers mostly just small bites (and alcohol, of course). Being that I had just left lunch when I decided to stop in, I didn’t order any of those bites. I did, however have some of the best salted caramel ice cream I have ever tasted while here. It alone was worth the stop!

This City Winery bar has such great vibes. The staff is super friendly, the crowd is energetic, and they play live music every Thursday-Sunday from 3pm to 6p. But if you can’t make it on one of those days don’t think that you’ll miss any of the fun. I was there on a Wednesday afternoon, and although there wasn’t a performance, there was a Michael Jackson tribute where they played his music, as well as covers of his songs, for over an hour! Who can’t help but dance to the sounds of MJ?!

You can tell that this is the place to be on the weekends because there of the several yachts tied up, at any given time, out front. If you’re there earlier in the week and there aren’t boats parked, the bar facing the river is the best seat to watch while yachts and tour boats pass by.

Getting here is simple. On the opposite side of the river from the Trump Tower, walk down the staircase at State Street, walk towards Dearborn Street and you’ll run right into it! (Basically, its located in-between State St and Dearborn St on the river)

This place is what perfect summer afternoons are made of!
