I’ve been thinking a lot about “a seat at the table” ever since @chapplechandler shared this dinner in Charleston with @tastemaker_travels!
Often times that phrase is used as a metaphor to determine power and who gets the make decisions. However, these ladies weren’t here to take up any votes or establish a decree of any kind. And yet— they still have influence. Their thoughts and opinions go into shaping this taste of millions of women around this country. So having their ear over a beautiful dinner on the piazza at @thecoopercharleston gave me the opportunity to do something that meant a lot to me.
Across that table, we spoke about heritage! @sabrinachazen shared how she learned of the impact of the Jewish community in Charleston thanks to @walkandtalkchs, while I talked about how my community, those who identify as Gullah/Geechie, influenced the South while maintaining the practices of their West African roots. In a place that so often is only portrayed as “one thing” it felt so good to broaden the definition of my hometown to the women who have the power to do the same!
Super thankful for brands like @tuckernuck and @lawluxurytravel that allow conversations like these to happen…around a beautiful table!!

I’ve been watching soo many companies and municipalities prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of this country while simultaneously watching as my community still awaits the “freedom and justice for all” that The Constitution promised.
This week our state was rocked by a not guilty verdict after the murder of a 14 year old Black BOY! A kid whose life was worth less than the four water bottles a convenience clerk alleged he shoplifted. And while it was painful realization, it was one we’ve become accustomed to.
The US, and more specifically South Carolina, are the only homes I’ve ever known. My ancestors were as instrumental in forming this nation as anyone else so I refuse to give up on it. A more perfect union is possible, but only if EVERY community has access to the values we swear we stand on.
This coming Tuesday is Election Day. There are primaries all over this state with candidates who believe this nation belongs to ALL of us— and candidates who believe it doesn’t. I urge you to help select those, like @annieandrewsmd, who not only recognize that our differences are our strength… but who are willing to fight to ensure race, religion, and economic status don’t determine your fate.
The American Dream can be accessible to all of us… if we choose leaders that believe the same.

Digital proof that summer has unofficially begun!
One of my goals this season is to not be tethered to my phone. I want to walk away from it and forget where it is. I don’t want Teagan seeing my face glowing blue from its light. I want the sun to bake us as we find new excuses to be outdoors. I want his memories of summer to physical, not digital… but I still wanna capture it all. So I’m toting my @campsnapcamera around. It snaps clear photos, with a slightly vintage edge, and uploads straight to my phone… but this best part is you don’t see it right away so it creates the same anticipation that a disposable camera would. Best of both worlds in my book!!

Isn’t it funny how much more you appreciate sunshine after experiencing consistent rain?!
We’ve been on 30A for a while now and have had to maneuver around rain every single day. But because of that we’ve taken full advantage of any decent weather in-between.
Think: impromptu golf cart rides around the neighborhood, beach days that start late-afternoon, coffee runs that cosplay as an excursion, and porch sits that last longer than they have to.
But isn’t this true in other parts of our lives, too? We don’t fully appreciate relationships, jobs, health, and even stages of motherhood until something reminds us of how much worse the situation could be.
So let this serve as a reminder to always take advantage, and appreciate, the sunshine while you have it. You never know how long it will last…
