I’d never:
1. Put a gift in a gift bag— half of the excitement is the anticipation and unwrapping a gift gives the receiver wayyy more time to feel that
2. Arrive to a holiday party on time— this time of year is hectic, unless you’re arriving early to help set up, give your host a 10 minute grace period (unless clearly stated otherwise ) as I’m sure something will have not gone their way earlier in the day and they’ll need that time for final touches
3. Ignore festive dressing— this season is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ so we’re wearing our best and it’s gonna be luxe. Think: sparkles, silks, velvet, cashmere …and lots of vintage (or hand-me-down) pieces!!
4. Buy new decor or change our theme every single year— call me old school but I think what makes a house feel so warm and special during the holidays is the connection to what’s inside it. And if holiday decor follows you and your family throughout your lives, you’re able to attach memories and stories to it. It stops being about the aesthetic and starts being about the connection.
5. Not carry on at least one tradition— no matter how small, how many people it includes, or even how new it is!! Whatever it is just do it again and again every year.

In the midst of uncertainty we made a decision to jump the broom anyways and face whatever lay ahead, together.

FIVE YEARS later, life looks a lot different, but the promise we made to each other on that warm December afternoon in the park is still the foundation of what we’re building. And though it has felt like a blink of an eye + a lifetime all at once, every day I find a new reason to fall more in love with you.

Happy anniversary, Mr. Rutherford! 🖤
And shout out to @annerhettphotography for capturing this day. I tell people all the time how throughout my entire wedding day I felt like I was floating one inch off the ground. When I look back at these photographs I feel that feeling all over again and am just truly thankful for how she documented it all!!

@mackenziechilds’ holiday collection is “future matriarch” approved!  🎄💫 Each piece feels like a tiny work of art— full of heart and detail– which makes them perfect to be passed on from generation to generation. I started building my son’s ornament collection the year after his first Christmas. Ever since, we use the same ornaments to build tradition and I’m willing to bet one day he’ll pack them up and take them to a house of his own!!! Be still my heart!!!
Comment ORNAMENTS and I’ll share a list for you to start your very own heirloom collection!

The last bits of November! 🍁
We’re in the thick of our holiday festivities, but I still wanted to take a minute to wrap up November because I spent most of the month feeling absolutely grateful for this life.
Thanksgiving was simple but special: centerpieces made of fruit from my grandfather’s tree, crafts during the parade, pjs on til noon, homemade desserts, DIY gifts, but then to wrap it all up….a loss from the Gamecocks cementing this as the worst season ever lol
